Babygirl, a stylish, psychosexual thriller written and directed by Halina Reijn, tells the story of Nicole Kidman’s passion and power as she engages in a risky sexual relationship with a 28-year-old British actor, Harris Dickinson, who plays an office intern.

Considering 1999’s Eyes Wide Shut, Nicole Kidman’s description of it as the most “exposing” performance she has ever given is quite a claim.

Nicole Kidman portrays Romy, a successful businesswoman who owns a robotics company that replaces warehouse workers with robots.

She appears to be just as successful at home as she is at work. Jacob (Antonio Banderas), her theatre director husband, seems only too happy to satisfy her somewhat demanding sexual needs, and she does the same. A couple of teenage daughters complete the family.

Romy is on her way to work one morning when she notices a young man soothing a dangerous dog. The young man is actually Samuel (Dickinson), one of a fresh group of interns from the company, who are formally welcomed into Romy’s elegant office to show their respect. She notices his good looks and swagger right away, and eventually she finds it impossible to resist him.

But Babygirl is not just the story of an illicit office affair across the age divide. Far more interestingly, it is about power and workplace politics. Romy’s job is to tell people what to do, but Samuel feels that she has a kinky desire to be the one to follow orders. Thus, the CEO becomes the bossed and the intern becomes the boss.

With outstanding support from Antonio Banderas, Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson deliver captivating and seductive performances, making Babygirl well worth a watch.
